Alumni Spotlights: Evan Hinds

HindsEvan Hinds is currently the percussion director at O’Fallon Township High School in O’Fallon, IL and at McKendree University in Lebanon, IL. His duties at O’Fallon include caption head and arranger for the Marching Panthers Percussion and director of four concert percussion ensembles. At McKendree, he is the director for the Marching Bearcat Drumline and the concert percussion ensemble. In addition, he teaches private percussion lessons, percussion methods, marching band methods, and is the student teaching supervisor for the instrumental music program. Evan is the percussionist for the Arch City Brass Band and an educational endorser for Innovative Percussion. In addition, he is a Level 1 Graduate of the Marching Roundtable Judges Academy and a drill and marching percussion designer for multiple successful marching bands.

The O’Fallon Township Percussion Program has received multiple accolades. Recent accomplishments for the marching percussion include multiple appearances in BOA Grand National Semifinals in addition to consistent appearances in BOA Regional and Super Regional Finals. In 2014, members of the drumline were performers in the St. Louis Muny production of Hello, Dolly!, alongside actor John O’Hurley. In 2013, The Marching Panthers Percussion was named grand champion along with best snareline and best front ensemble at the 2013 Mozingo Marching Percussion Competition in St. Louis. Most recently, the Marching Panthers performed in the Tournament of Roses Parade, January 2015. The concert percussion has also been recognized on multiple levels, including 8 “Best of Day” performances in the last four years at the IHSA State Solo and Ensemble Contest. The program has also had 13 percussionists selected for the IMEA District 6 Festival and 5 selected for the IMEA All-State Festival in the past three years, including the top two chairs in the 2015 All-State Band. In May 2014, the concert bands at O’Fallon had the honor of performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
