Alumni Spotlight: Wyatt Roberds

Version 2Wyatt Roberds is the Director of Bands at Granite City High School in Granite City, Illinois.  Mr. Roberds directs the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, two jazz bands, several chamber ensembles, and the GCHS Marching Warriors Band.  While under his direction, the GCHS Band program has more than doubled in size, and has received numerous awards and honors achieving a reputation for excellence.  Mr. Roberds is a frequent guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator, and is a graduate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Mr. Roberds writes, “I sincerely appreciate the SIUE Instrumental Faculty’s interest and willingness in coming out to work with our students on a regular basis.   Whether it is Dr. Bell working with our Concert Bands on their contest music, Dr. Korak giving a brass clinic on tone production, Dr. Hinson demonstrating how to prepare woodwind reeds, Dr. Archer working with our budding high school composers, Dr. Coan sending out SIUE Music Education Majors to practice their conducting skills, or Mr. Smithiger bringing his percussion ensemble out for a concert, the SIUE Faculty is always there to inspire and motivate our students as they move on to the next level.”
